Make Three Lengths Of Seed Tube
The customer brought us a design that required exceptionally large and expensive tooling. The design consisted of three different lengths of molded plastic used to hold a steel cylinder for seed transport. Other than the lengths the, three designs were identical.
Our Solution
Modular Concept Saves Money
The engineers from our New Product Introduction team proposed an elegant design change. They created four-inch modular sections with a snap retention system that can be bolted together according to the desired length. This allowed the customer to use one design and one tool to create any length of tube they needed. The impact was significant and it reduced the customer’s tooling cost by $150,000 USD.
